Xiaomi has been pumping a lot of devices lately and it’s all because of the increasing competition in the smartphone market. OEMs are trying their best to keep up with the current demand of the consumers. Like other Smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi too has their hands full. Currently, they are gearing up to launch the new Redmi Series of devices, the leaks for which have surfaced online. Let’s break it down.
Redmi 7 & Redmi 7 Pro
Xiaomi generally refreshes its low budget Redmi series every 6-8 months. The last device from this series was the Redmi 6 which was launched back in June. These upcoming devices will be the successor to the Redmi 6 series and will fall around the same price bracket as the last one.
From the above pic, it’s clearly evident that the Redmi 7 Pro comes with a water drop notch and a recent tenaa listing and certification by China’s Compulsory Certificate (3C) says that the probable dimensions are 147.76×71.89×7.8mm, sports a 5.84-inch display, and a 2,900mAh battery.
Other rumoured specs include a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC, which will be an upgrade to its previously overused SD625. The rumours also suggest that both the devices run on MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. There are no signs of Android Pie as of yet.
Redmi Pro 2 – The mystery 48MP camera phone?
Earlier this month, Lin Bin, President of Xiaomi shared an image on his weibo account. In the image, we can see a camera sensor ( most likely a dual camera ) with 48MP written next to it. This could either be just one 48MP sensor or two 24MP sensors of varying focal lengths.
This device could be none other than Redmi Pro 2. The successor to the original Redmi Pro, which was the first Redmi device from Xiaomi to sport a dual camera setup on the back. The leaked promotional banner images also indicates that the device would be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC. The specifications of SD675 confirm that it does supports cameras up to 48MP.
When the details of Mi Play first surfaced online, we all thought it would just be a rebranded PocoPhone F1, but the teasers released by Xiaomi show a completely different device. The device showcased in the pictures has a water drop notch on the display and the dual rear camera setup is also quite different from the PocoPhone F1.
The TENAA listing reveals that the device will feature a 5.84-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. The same listing also reveals that the phone will be powered by a moderate 2,900mAh battery. Mi Play from Xiaomi will be running on MIUI 10 based on Android Oreo out of the box.
The device will be unveiled officially on December 24.
Google released a stripped down version of Android last year for entry-level devices with low specs called as Android GO and we have already seen multiple manufacturers releasing devices based on it. Now in a surprise leak, it looks like Xiaomi is also boarding the Android Go ship with a new device called Redmi Go.
A Xiaomi phone with the model number M1903C3GG was seen on Singapore’s Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA). The same device was seen at the FCC and the EEC but it’s Singapore’s agency that reveals the phone’s marketing name is Redmi Go.
