Google has once again taken a shot at Apple with its new Pixel 3 and detailing the night sight mode. The image was shared on Twitter by the Marvin Chow, Vice President of Product Marketing, Google. In the photo, we see pictures clicked from Pixel 3 in comparison with “Phone X” with a Shot on iPhone written at the bottom corner with an asterisk.

Google Pixel 3 vs Apple iPhone XS

This isn’t the first time we have seen something like this from the search giant. Last year, Google uploaded a video on its Made by Google YouTube account comparing its devices with that from Apple. Night Sight is a feature which was rolled out to Pixel 3 via a software update. In Night Sight mode the device takes a bunch of photos at different exposure levels. It then aligns and adds them together using machine learning. This brings out a good looking low light image which wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

Google has been killing the camera game on its pixel devices, all thanks to machine learning. First with HDR+ on its original Pixel and then the Night Sight mode on Pixel 3 & Pixel 3 XL. Apple, on the other hand, has also implemented several features on its latest iPhone devices. Portrait Lighting, Smart HDR are some of them.

In the above photo is the Apple iPhone XS on the left and the one shot from Pixel 3 on the right. We can see that Pixel 3 has done an incredible job of bringing out the subject along with the background. The same cannot be said about the image taken from iPhone XS as the visibility of the subject is next to none. While some may argue that the picture on the left looks artificial but it’s better to have something, then to have none.

Note: Night Sight mode is also available on Pixel 1 & Pixel 2.

Apple has always been in competition with other top Android OEMs like Samsung and Google in the camera department. All of them have their pros and cons, and that’s why finding a real winner becomes difficult. We would like to hear what you guys have to say about this.
