Last week Apple revealed that it intentionally slows down devices with older batteries to avoid unwanted shutdowns by preventing the peak usage of power from the battery by the processor. Apple delivered this feature to iPhone 6 series and iPhone SE with iOS 10.2 and extended it to iPhone 7 family with iOS 11.2 update. It also said that the phone restores to normal when the battery is replaced with a new one.
whatever might be intentions of Apple good or bad, it faced a severe backlash from the majority of the users who say that Apple doing to force the users to upgrade and many of them sued the Apple about this.
Following this today Apple in a long message posted on its website apologized and stated that it never intentionally tries to degrade the user experience.
“First and foremost, we have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. Our goal has always been to create products that our customers love, and making iPhones last as long as possible is an important part of that.”
So, to address the user concerns it said that it is reducing the cost of the replacement battery for an out-of-warranty iPhone by $50 i.e from $79 to $29 for iPhone 6 or later and will be available through the January 2018 to December 2018 worldwide. and an additional feature will be provided in the next iOS update which gives users more visibility about the battery condition.
